Wolf Cub Pack Prowl
The Observant Beagle: Nature Observations
September 25-27, 2026
Cub Pack Fall Camp will take place around Kitchie Lodge,
Camp Samac, 275 Conlin Rd E, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
Theme “Peanuts” | Competitive Activities | Games | Meal Plan
What is PROWL?
PROWL replaces the concept of Pow Wow in the fall, marking the beginning of the Scouting season. It provides Scouters from attending Packs with an opportunity to get refamiliarized with their youth, evaluate their previous year’s programming and assess the skill sets of the youth after a summer break. This helps identify:
- Skills that youth still need to develop, and
- Evaluate if youth are ready to begin their journey into leadership roles within the Pack, and their individual lairs.
- an opportunity to assess the maturity levels of their Cubs after summer break
- provides for a great weekend to go camping in the outdoors.
Focus on Wolf Cub Packs
This season-opening camp benefits both the Pack Scouters and the Pack youth. For most groups, the fall camp occurs just two weeks after the first meeting of the season.
Team building events will help build cohesion in packs as they get going for the season.
Program Focus
The PROWL program will focus on traditional Scouting skills, including:
- Team building
- Nature observation and engagement
- Trail skills (marking and finding)
- Cooperative activities
All activities will be presented in an age-appropriate, engaging, and enjoyable manner for both youth and volunteers.
Camp Schedule
Activities will be divided into two morning sessions and three afternoon sessions. At the beginning of the year, fewer activities are often more effective, allowing youth to ease into the program without feeling overwhelmed..
A meal plan is offered again, prepared at Kitchie Lodge.

Badge Work and Skill Development
Another intention of PROWL is to assist youth in attaining a few Personal Achievement Badges and Outdoor Activity Skills badges. A list of badges and levels worked on during the camp will be provided to the Contact Scouters in attendance for their records.
Planned Activities
The following activities are being considered for the camp:
Kite Making – Preferred option, as it allows for a follow-up activity during home Pack meetings. Youth can attempt to fly their kites, finish making them, and include those who were not in attendance.
Hike – Includes trail marking and finding, identification of animal tracks and flora, and recognizing and avoiding potential hazards.
Fire Lighting – Conducted under close guidance from the primary activity Scouter, with support from attending Group Pack Scouters. This activity has been safely conducted in the past.
Basic First Aid – Age-appropriate first aid skills presented by members of 1st Durham MedVents, where possible.
Craft – Two concepts are being considered:
